Showing Up

I clip into my spin bike and look around the room. I spot the familiar faces and think, These guys are always here. They must come all the time. Way more than me.

Before I even start the workout, I beat myself up a bit. Why?

The music starts to speed up. I catch my rhythm and try to dismiss the thoughts.

My buddy with the long grey beard is already killing it. How does he not die of heat? It takes me longer to warm up while the regulars hit their stride.

They must come all the time. Way more than me.

When the music hits a quiet point, we grab our water and catch our breath. A loving voice enters my head—the one that sounds like my twin. “Ummm, how could you see these ‘guys that are always here,’ if you didn’t show up too!?”

The song continues. *Right here. Right now.* I settle in and count my pedals. One-two. One-two.

*Right here. Right now.*

When have you arrived with power, but given away the credit?

After the kickstart of the new year, the momentum-glow often washes off. Resolutions can go askew, and defeat tries to snuggle. But guess who showed up to 2020?  YOU! Like with my spin class at the Y, it takes being “there” and present to take notice. When have you arrived with power, but given away the credit?

As we plot and plow forward, can you please share the steps you took to be

*Right here? Right now?*
